A few weeks ago while driving home, I noticed there was an interesting little food store on the side of a new shopping centre. Today, I finally had a chance to visit this little store, called Nikumaki Honpo.
This place sells only one thing – Nikumaki, which is supposedly a new kind of Japanese food. I’ve never been to Japan so I can’t be certain how ‘new’ it is, but I have definitely not come across this at any Japanese restaurant before.
It’s basically an oven baked rice ball that’s been wrapped up in thin slices of marinated pork. It intrigues me as to how they managed to cook it in the oven and maintain the shape and not fall apart.
If you happen to be in the area, give this place a visit. I think it’s quite interesting but it’s not that filling to be a meal by itself.
